View DB Maintenance

Hi Cool People,

Is there a service that needs to be stop or any special steps that needs to be done when doing a DB maintenance? We are going to install windows+SQL update on the server  where vcenter and view DB is pointing and it may require a reboot. Just wanted to make sure this won't break anything.

I hope someone can shed some light.

1. Before applying updates on DB server, make sure you have DB backups and snapshot of VM. Take snapshot first (If possible in powered off state of VM)

2. For this downtime (During above backup + Windows and SQL update). Stop all vCenter Server services on the vCenter Server system. This ensures that no service is out of sync during the backup. Once DB server is back online and database are up, start vCenter services.
