View Connection replica(s) over WAN?

Does anyone here replicate a View Connection server over the WAN?  We have sites that require the ability to run independently in the event our HQ (where the Connection server lives) becomes unavailable.  What is the risk of a WAN replicated Connection server instance?

The architecture guide states that when a View environment must encompass multiple datacenters the best practice is to have a separate View environment for each site.
