View Client Getting Disconnected

We've recently had an issue where a couple of our View users are getting disconnected.  This one in paticular is connecting through the View Client 5 to a Windows 7 machine.  Her client just closes on her - afterwards she is able to log back in and everything seems to be working fine.  I've noticed some disconnects in her PCoIP and Agent logs which I'll paste below but I'm having trouble figuring out where the issue is.  Has anyone seen this before or know which direction I should be looking in?  I appericiate any help.

According to the PCOIP Disconnect Cause code list the  TERA_DISCONNECT_CAUSE_HOST_BROKER_GENERIC message is caused by the below.

PCoIP connection not established because of cancellation. This can occur with Welcome Screens and View client's ConnectionTicketTimeout settings.

Here is a link to the document which requires a login, http://techsupport.teradici.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=15164.

Did you every find out what is wrong? I too am having something similar happen in View 5.0.1. The logs show disconnects as a manual close from the user side which is not happening.

Unfortunatly I wasn't able to find out what was causing the issue from the View client.  We ended up moving the user to a Wyse zero client and that seems to have resolved the issue.

In our case I believe it was something to do with the View client installation itself.  I believe what the server identified as manual disconnects was the client crashing.

Jusy FYI for anyone looking at this, I believe I got the problem figured out. In my case, I was able to recreate the issue on a regular basis. I worked with VMware support reviewing logs and other things to really no success. After trying standard stuff like reinstalling VMware Tools and the View agent along with a lot of other stuff, I set the resolution to the lowest possible setting on the parent (which I now know is a best practice standard). So originally the parent was setup for 1024x768 by our installation consultant and I took it down to 800x600. After I did that, I haven't had one complaint about any disconnects happening and am unable to recreate the issue.

Similar issue, however we're running wyseP20

Another log to look at is C:\ProgramData\VMware\VDM\logs\pcoip_server_TIMESTAMP.txt

From debug-TIMESTAMP.txt found a string "[wsnm_desktop] Console session needs to be disconnected" at .373

filtering the pcoip_server log for close to that time frame shows what it seems the reason for the disconnection is a ping latency?

07/30/2013, 18:18:56.274> LVL:1 RC: -504 MGT_PCOIP_DATA : Unable to communicate with peer on PCoIP media channels (data manager ping timer expired)

Modifications done before finding the above:

Modified the pool to use 1 display and the lowest resolution available (1680x1050)

Recently added new host and its Date/Time and NTP were not configured; Sync the same as other hosts now.

Upgraded VconServer VM to 4GRam 4Cores from .5G 1Core... yeah I know

I believe this is where the cause is, logged in and noticed 80% usage where ws_TunnelSErvice was taking up 200M and there were pages being done...maybe just didn't have enough resources.

Keeping observation and running a day test to see if the issue persists.

Hope this information is useful for someone!

I guess I should have posted more.

Resources issues can be a reasons for disconnect for sure with either network or vDesktop hardware resources both physical and virtual. If you think you might be having PCoIP or network problems, there are tools out there that can be very help in determining the status, stats, and health of your View sessions. You can get them at http://mindfluxinc.net/?cat=19 . Look for a tool called PCoIPConfig.exe. there are a few other tools at that website as well. It might be able to help you rule out dropped packets or network latency at least. You can take measurements on latency and compare with VMware recommended thresholds.

My personal disconnect issue persisted after setting the the resolution down even though it seemed to improve. My issue ended up being solved by two things after talking with Teradici who actually created PCoIP:

1. Resetting the power policy on the parent VM and turning all items to be always on/never falling asleep

2.

  • Uninstalling VMware Tools, Shutting down the parent VM (not just rebooting)
  • Uninstalling View Agent, Shutting down the parent VM (not just rebooting)
  • Installing VMware Tools, Shutting down the parent VM (not just rebooting)
  • Installing View Agent, Shutting down the parent VM (not just rebooting)

I had some trouble removing the VMware Composer service n some of my parent VMs after the agent removal, but I disabled the service, removed it from the registry, and deleted all the associated files. I was then able to reinstall the agent cleanly.

My environment for View Desktop with linked clones

VM: Windows 7 32bit

Processor: 2vCPU with dual cores (appears as 4)

RAM: 4GB

Hard disk: 60 GB

vSphere 5.1

Server: Dell R715 with 2 CPU with 12 Cores @ 2.4Ghz and 128 GB of RAM.

Good luck

Adding to your comments on reinstalling View Agent and VMware Tools:

Reinstall VMware Tools and View Agent of the parent virtual machine:

  1. Uninstall VMware Tools and View Agent software on the View desktop and reboot the VM.
  2. Install the VMware Tools in Custom mode.
  3. Expand VMware Device Drivers and change the SVGA Driver to This feature will not be available and reboot.
  4. Install VMware Tools and reboot.
  5. Install the View Agent and reboot.
  6. Release IP and shut down the parent VM
  7. Recompose the pool and see for any new disconnection.

Ensure that, you have the supported version of View Agent and View Client that matches to your View Connection Server version.

Let me know if this helps.
