View 5.1 - Upgrading Security Server

When upgrading the security server from 5.0 to 5.0.1 we did not have any issues, it was successfull.  But when we upgrade the Secuirty Server from 5.0.1 to 5.1 we get the following the error below...   Why are we getting this error?  Have the upgrade requirements changed in 5.1?

Error 28083.  IPsec setup failed.  Please refer to the c:\users\administration\AppData\...\vminst.log

Also see attachment.

Thank you!

You must use Windows Firewall for the security server and the connection server it uses.

Read ALL of the VMware View 5.1 documentation very carefully.  5.1 is a completely different animal compared to any previous version, especially with security.

Also pay close attention to the certificate requirements for 5.1  View handles certificates completely different.

Here is a brief snip of the requirements:

Best of luck,

Looks like VMware added an additional port requirement...

This requirement is UDP port 500 for IPSec bidirectional between the Connection Server and the Security Server.

Once I added this rule to our firewall, it now works Smiley Happy

Thanks for posting back. As you say, UDP 500 is now a requirement so that we can automatically setup IPSEC between Security Server and Connection Server. With previous versions, IPSEC setup (if required) was a manual process.

Glad its working for you now.
