View 4 on ESX 3.5u5?

Is it possible (and supported) to run View 4 on ESX3.5u5 (and preferrably VC 2.5u5)?

According to View Manager Administration Guide it's not, but I can't understand why?

"VMware Infrastructure 3.5. Update 3 or Update 4 is recommended. Update 5

is not supported."

We need to run Windows 2008 R2-servers, so we would like to upgrade because of that. Taking our environment to vSphere 4 is planned, but not for 1-2 months.

View 4 supports both ESX 3.5 u3 and u4 as well as vsphere u1. See the View 4 admin guide page 15.

 VMware virtualization environment

 VMware vSphere 4 Update 1. Update 1 is required.

 VMware Infrastructure 3.5. Update 3 or Update 4 is recommended. Update 5 is not supported.

The bad news is View 4 can only be installed on Windows Server 2003 (see the specific versions below) not Windows Server 2008. See the View 4 admin guide page 15.

Supported Operating Systems

The View Connection Server can be installed on the following 32‐bit operating systems:

 Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition with SP2

 Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition with SP2

 Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition with SP2

 Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with SP2

So in short, IF I upgrade to ESX 3.5u5, will I not be able to run a View-system in that environment?

The reason I think this is so strange is that the View Administration Guide (which states that "Update 5 is not supported") was released several weeks BEFORE ESX 3.5u5. Did VMware already then new that Update 5 wasn't going to work with View 4? Or are the Admin Guide only referring to VirtualCenter Server 2.5 Update 5?

If so, is it possible to run the older VC2.5u4 together with ESX 3.5u5, in order to get the 2k8R2-support AND keep the compatibility with View 4?

I'm not going to run View Administrator or any other View-machine on W2k8.

The documentation is talking about VC 2.5 U5.

There isnt't yet any note about ESX 3.5 U5... so just wait (to be sure...).

Odd that it's not supported. vCenter U5 only had minor changes from U4. Support for High Consolidation in VMware HA Clusters was I believe the only change.

Is it possible that this works but just hasn't been qualified yet? Any success\failure stories out there yet?

I'm sure its a QA thing, have not heard of any issues yet..

But I recommend to wait with upgrading any production-grade installations until official support is announced.
