View 4 Linked clones/Composer "NoPermissionFault"

Evaluating View 4 (having previously evaluated View 3, so this isn't my first rodeo). VMware ESX/VC are all updated to version 4, Update 1. Getting an error trying to created Automated Pool, non-persistent linked clones:

Desktop Composer VcFault: see event log for full error - Unknown - <NoPermissionFault xmlns="urn:internalvim25" xsi:type="NoPermission" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"><object type="Datastore" serverGuid="439C2194-307B-41B6-AD4C-7DC904541FF1">datastore-7823</object><privilegeId>Datastore.AllocateSpace</privilegeId></NoPermissionFault>

So far I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling Composer (and creating new Composer database), and disconnecting/reconnecting the ESX host, to no avail.

Any ideas?

What permission does the vCenter user have you've used to connect to the View Manager?

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but this is what I have:

Domain user: mydomain\ViewAdmin

vCenter role: View Administrator (enabled with permissions spelled out in the View 4.0 admin guide pages 37 and 144). This role is defined at the datacenter level and is set to propagate down.

mydomain\View Admin is a member of the vCenter server local administrators group, the vCenter View Administrator role, and is a View Manager administrator.

There is one difference in the permissions that I found. On page 144, under Datastore permissions, there is no longer a File Management checkbox (leftover from View 3?). However, there are check boxes for Allocate Space and Move Datastore. These check boxes are currently cleared. Everything else in that section is checked.
