View 4.5, W7 Client, 2003 Domain -> Failed to join the domain

Hi there,

today we have upgraded our View enviroment from View 4.0 to View 4.5

(View Connection Server 4.5, View Composer 2.5, View Agent 4.5, vSphere 4 Update 2, Windows 7 Client, Windows Small Business Server 2003 DC)

Standalone Desktops are working correctly

Linked Clone Desktops showing following error: View Composer agent initialization state error (18): Failed to join the domain

The desktops must not join the domain because there already joined (Deployed about a half year ago with View Composer 2)

So how can this error occur? How can we solve this error?

I have tried this solution: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1613937 but it didn´t worked for me.

I have checked domain settings, reinstalled agent, rebooted all systems -> nothing helps

Thanks for your answers

Hello,

1. parent image is joined to domain

2. yes, i have shut down the parent vm and taked the snapshot

But this all was about a half year ago, with view composer 2 and view agent 4.

My problem at the moment is following:

If i upgrade the vm´s to view agent 4.5 it shows following error: View Composer agent initialization state error (18): Failed to join the domain

If i uninstall view agent 4.5 and install view agent 4 again to the vm´s, it works without any problems

I have seen this with Windows XP and 2008 domains.  Had to install the RODC patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944043/en-us

Documented on pg 296 of the View 4.6 administration guide: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/view-46-administration.pdf

You don't have the correct components to fit the bill but hopefully it will assist?

Have you tried with View 4.6 components?

are you using the quickprep option? I had the problem when the master image was joined to the domain. When I changed the master image to workgroup evrything went fine.

Have you followed the steps in www.vmware.com/pdf/view45_upgrade_guide.pdf

For a linked clone pool, you can not reinstall agent in each clones.

You should create a new snapshot with 4.5 agent then perform a new pool creation or recompose operation.

refer upgrade doc for detailed info

I have seen this before in our system....   The issue we had was composer was having issues removing the old desktop entry in AD for some of our View desktops.  The fix was to delete the View desktops then go into AD and remove desktop entry from the OU.  Then regeneate and things worked fine (and yes we use quick prep).  Also, with Win7 make sure you have KMS server and that your base image has activated.
