View 4.5 Reference Architecture Local Cache

I'm having trouble understanding the caching option in view 4.5 that is mentioned here http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/VMware-View-45-Stateless-RA-brief.pdf?rls=en&q=vmware%20view%204.5%2...

The line is "Specifically, it is possible to provide a desktop using local storage as “cache” for the desktops, reducing the needs for SAN-based storage and IOPS within that shared storage architecture."

Are they just saying that storing linked clones locally on faster storage is beneficial vs storing everything on SAN.. or is ther a real caching option in View 4.5?

There is no caching option in 4.5 but you can reduce the SAN requirement by utilzing SSD and local storage of the servers.

Thanks. Thought I was going crazy... they use the term "caching" multiple times.
