VMware View Kiosk Mode - Zero Clients

I have a need to create Kiosk terminals with VMWare View. I have read the documents explaining how to do this. The document explains how to do it with Thin Clients. I want to do it with Zero Clients. I was particuraly thinking about the WYSE P25 zero clients.

Has anyone create kiosks with zero clients?

Thanks,

Brian Sutcliffe

Yes, it is possible.

Similar to how you would use group policy settings on a thin client running say, Windows Embedded to setup the View Client to login to a particular desktop pool with a username and password, you can either directly setup a zero client in kiosk mode by logging into it via it's IP address using a web browser, or (preferably if you are doing a large amount of zero clients) you can use the Teradici Management Console to setup a Kiosk configured group and profile and use the management console to apply the same settings to multiple zero clients.

I am confused by "you can either directly setup a zero client in kiosk mode by logging into it via it's IP address using a web browser"

I didn't think that the WYSE P25 had any ort of OS or webserver built in.

Is there a cost associated with the Teradici Management Console? I went to their site and it looked good. It seems to be free which seems to good to be true.

Thanks,

Brian

The Teradici Management Console is free, you just download the virtual machine files from their site and import it onto a VMware host.  The management of it is all web based.

The Wyse P25s most definately have a web configuration component built into the firmware.  All Teradici zero clients do.  In fact, other than the housing and some port differences, all of the Teradici chipset based zero clients are identical (HP t310, EVGA PD06, Wyse P25, etc).  I buy them on price mostly, as they are pretty much interchangable and can all be managed using the same management console since it's all the same Teradici internal parts (the manufacturers don't really tell you that part).

If I have some time tomorrow, maybe I'll upload some screen shots.

Here are some screen shots.  All are from a Wyse P25, but other Teradici clients look identical.

The web configuration login:

The Kiosk-mode setup screen:

However, I use the Auto Login configuration for my Library patron kiosk computers:

Hope this helps clear it up.  Again this is directly on the client, using the Management Console is preferable, but does the same thing.

That is very helpful.

I read someplace that I should have a dedicated connection server for Kiosk mode. Is that what you do?

Brian
