VMware View 5.1 Security Server RAM requirements

Hi all,

I understand that the View Connection Server 5.1 required at least 10Gb of RAM for deployment of 50+ desktops and I also received that tip from VMware Support Engineer to at least use 10Gb of RAM when installing the CS for the first time so we will not have performance issue later on.

Now, my question is how about the Security Server?

Based on the VM docs, they all (CS, Transfer, SS) needs to have the same hardware configuration but I'm not sure about the Security Server why would it needs 10Gb of RAM. The CS needs a big RAM because of the Java Virtual Machine 2Gb size but does SS has a JVM also?

Based on your experience, will a 4Gb RAM sufficient enough for SS?

Thanks for the feedback! Smiley Happy

Security Server uses the JVM too.

At least 10GB is recommended for Connection Server (including replica Connection Server and Security Server). See table 1-1 on page 8 here http://pubs.vmware.com/view-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/view-51-installation.pdf

Thanks Mark. I'm afraid you'll say that.

I've read that on the guide but was hoping that I can get a break on the SS. Haha.

Now it means I have to plan on getting lots of RAM on the new server when I upgrade to View 5.1.

Based on the VMware guide:

1 Connection Server, 1 Replica Server and 1 Security Server = 30 Gb of RAM.

1 View Composer = 8 Gb of RAM.

1 vCenter, 1 vCenter IS, 1 vCenter SSO = 10 Gb of RAM

Total: 48 Gb of RAM just to support View in small environment (< 50 desktops).

That sounds like a lot and that's not including the RAM for the Win7 desktops.

If per desktop has 2 Gb RAM x 50, I will need to have at least 148 Gb of RAM?

Yikes!  :smileycry:

Is that sounds about right, Mark?
