VMware VIew 5.3 with SQL 2008 R2 Express

Hi Everyone !

I'm about to deploy VMware View 5.3.

I will use one linked-clone pool with 100 desktops.

Can I use SQL 2008 R2 Express X64 for the composer ?

Is there any limitations I can come across in the future ?

Oh, i provide wrong link VMware View Database Sizing » myvirtualcloud.net . Yes it should be ok to use Express even for 100 clones, but only for View Composer database. As far as I know there is recommendation not to use SQL Express for vCenter database if you are going to run more than 50 vms, BUT it is old recommendation and with current SQL Express limit 10 GB and 1 CPU or 4 cores you can use it for vCenter database also I think.

Hello, MOAG.

Yes you can use SQL 2008R2 Express according to VMware View 5.2 Documentation Library (but you should run vCenter 5.0 or higher). Also the current limit of database size 10 Gb is more than enough for View Composer - look at Andre Leibovici blog Author » myvirtualcloud.net .

Hope it helps.

Thank you for your answer !

Yes, I'm running vCenter 5.5.

You didn't wrote if the environment will run smooth with 100 Vm's on SQL 2008 R2 SP2 X64 Express? Smiley Happy
