VMWare View vs VMWare VDM2

Jump to solution

I have been looking into VMWare View but cannot find any on-line documentation as to the advantages of View over VDM.

Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks, John

Thanks

Have found this resource but could not find a specific list of improvements. Have seen that there is now a centralised image and they now have ThinApp and thin printing as part of the solution but need something more concrete. A document on the advantages of VMWare View over Xen Desktop would do also.

I would recommend the release notes for VMWare View along with this link.

That is because unless you upgrade to the Premiers version there are no extra benefits, other than a slightly different version of Tomcat and interface.

however if you upgrade,

you will get

Linked Clones, these will significantly reduce your backend storage requirements,

Thinapp ???????????? jury is still out for me on this product, it is a poor relation to App-V

and the expremental Offline Desktop - this will be an awesome addition once it becomes supported, this give you the ability to check out to your local machine your Virtual desktop so you can work in a none connected environment. this guest can the be checked back in on your return to the connected world.

You also get the unified access (Access to other RDP physical machines) over the same encrypted tunnel and accessible from the same login interface. And the integrated printing (Thin Print Univeral Print Driver ) bundled with VDM client.
