VMWare Horizon scaling issue with secondary monitor when in full screen mode. Using MacBook Pro m1.

I am using a MacBook Pro m1 and a 1980x1080 secondary monitor. The screen in my MBP is fine whether it is in full screen or window mode. I experience the scaling issue with my secondary (extended) monitor only when I am at full screen mode.

Can anyone help me how to fix or is there a workaround on this? I was hoping to use 2 monitors while working with VMWare horizon but this scaling issue makes it so hard.

Thanks & Best Regards.

Hello,

I have seen similar discussion about M1 Macbooks on other threads with external monitors on it. I still see this something on M1 end. Following pointers can be helpful:

  • Set refresh rate to 60HZ.
  • Set the MACBook device internal display as Primary Display
  • Ensure the external monitor resolution is at native resolution level instead of custom or non-native high resolution

Thanks for your reply. I did the steps you advised it worked outside VMWare Horizon Client but when I am logged in VMWare Horizon Client, the fonts and pictures still appears blurry or kind of distorted.

While searching for a solution in the internet. I did find a third party app solution. I downloaded BetterDisplay (https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay

1. I set my secondary monitor as my Main Display

2. Open BetterDisplay Application

3. Navigate to Create New Dummy > Create and Configure "Name of your secondary display"

4. Then, Connect and Setup Mirroring

5. Open VMWare Horizon Client in full screen mode.

After performing these steps, the issue with the blurry fonts and distorted pictures got solved.

For now, I am still using the trial version of BetterDisplay. But I really do hope VMware gets this fixed.
