I have VMWare horizon loaded on my desktop and was advised to update to Ver 8. When I try to download and update the application appears to download then fails to launch. I receive a fail to load message. Any suggestions on a remedy?

so you talk about the client component of Horizon.
Try running the currently installed horizon client with administrator permissions. (right click etc..)
otherwise go look in the folder:
C:\ProgramData\VMware\logs
the logs (for example a file that should be called vminst_xxxx.log) and see if there are any errors.
