VMWare Horizon client 5.5.1 unable to connect to multiple external monitors when laptop screen on

Hi, I work for a large corporation that uses VMware Horizon client to connect to my desktop at work.  I am running the Mac client version 5.5.1.  My question is is that I have a Macbook Pro which is connected to 2 Dell external monitors.  What I would like to do is to be able to have my VMware desktop expand to use all 3 screens (the laptop's and the 2 external monitors).  However, when the laptop screen is active (the lid is open) the display only allows me to view the work on that screen only and does not recognize the 2 external monitors.  When I close the laptop lid and bring it into clamshell mode, it then recognizes the 2 external monitors and my work screen is able to expand to cover both monitors when in full screen mode.

Would anyone have any clue why this is pls?  I feel like I must be overlooking something very simple but can't figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jim

moogoohk,

After launching the desktop, bring it to front.

Then go to its menubar, "Window"->"Full Screen Display Mode", make sure "All Displays" is selected.

Then enter fullscreen to have a try.

Thanks & Regards

Thanks Zhenghua, gave it a try but still no go.  The issue seems to be when the laptop screen is open VMWare doesn't recognize the 2 external monitors.  When its closed and in clamshell mode, the 2 external monitors then appear as expected.

Would you have any other suggestions possibly?

Thanks,

Jim

Moogoohk,

Would you please goto the settings window, select the desktop you are using in the left table view.

In the right content, click "Display", in its "Full Screen", select "Use selected Display".

Then check how many monitors are displayed there.

Please refer the my attached screenshot.

Please also go to System Preferences of your Mac, click "Display"->"Arrangement", please check whether the arrangement is same as it shown in Horizon Client's settings window.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Zheunghua - ty for the reply.  I have done what you have suggested and now the Full Screen setting is configured as "Use Selected Displays".  It is also now matching what is under the System Preferences setting.  Unfortunately, when I try to enter full screen mode still with the laptop screen on/open, the VMWare still just displays on the laptop screen only and not on the 2 external monitors.

Any other steps I need to perform possibly?

Please find the attached screenshots for reference.

moogoohk,

If you have window laptop, would you please have a look whether same monitor topology has issue on Horizon Window Client?

Besides, would you please goto connection server admin page to configure the VM settings to allow 3 monitors and corresponding resolution as the attached screenshot? After that, power off the vm, wait 30s then power on in vcenter.

Then have a look whether there is any different?

Thanks & Regards

Hi Zhenghua, I have tried to do what you have suggested but still not working.  After I change the settings, power down VM, wait 30 secs and try to power VM on again, I see the settings default back to single display and the screen goes back to my laptop screen only.

Any other suggestions possibly?

Thanks,

Jim

moogoohk,

What's your agent version, is it 7 or 7.1.

Please refer the doc in https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Horizon-Client-for-Windows/5.5/horizon-client-windows-installation...

These old version only supports 2 monitors.

 Please also refer suggestion https://communities.vmware.com/t5/Horizon-Desktops-and-Apps/Multiple-Monitors/td-p/478653

Thanks & Regards
