Hello everyone.
We recently upgraded from 7.10 to 7.13. Base images remained the same (windows 10 1903) with the only changes being new version of tools and agent.
ESXi version = 6.7.0.16713306
Agent version = 7.13.0
Tools version = 11.1.5.16724464
Solarwinds reports the VM has bad tools. when we view the VM via ESXi, reports tools is current and running.
we have several pools and only one has the issue. VM's will eventually lock up.
we have tried to remove and install tools again but the issue remains.
this is a linked clone setup
we have been unable to find what is causing the VM to lock up.
Hi,
You can perform a clean installation of VMware components in the correct order. Instead of installing the VMware Tools from the ESXi host, you can download the latest VMware Tools version directly from VMware Downloads and install it.

Thanks for the response.
We downloaded the tools from VMware's website.
we have 13 pools and only one pool has the issue.
we have done the clean removal of tools and agent twice.
- load golden image
- remove agent
- reboot
- remove tools
- reboot
- install tools
- reboot
- install agent
- reboot
- shutdown
- snap
- recompose
the pool size is 400 VM's and about 60 VM's will have the issue throughout the day. Our solution thus far has been to remove the VM via the horizon portal. on the ESXi side, the VM is locked up, shows tools is not running or not installed. See screen shots.
