VDM 2.1 Error

I am getting a strange intermittent problem with users not being able to connect to there persistent VM desktops. I see an event id 104 on the Connection server under the Application logs, descriptions is

Source/Catergory VMware VDM

User CORPORATE\xxxxxxxx could not be allocated a VM for desktop XXXX - reason: No response received

I also see the error logged under the Events tab of the VDM Web Admin page when logged in.

I have checked Firewall problems/ports, DNS/Pings etc and all the obvious things, what's strange is that it may only happen once or twice a week or maybe a fortnight. As far as the infrastructure goes nothing is changing which is why it seems odd that one day it will work and possibly the next day it doesn't. When the user attempts to make a connection to the VM, it displays 'The Desktop has failed to Open' The Desktop is currently not available, please try connecting again later or contact your system administrator.

Using VDM 2.1.0 Build 596 with ESX 3.5 and VC 2.5

Has anyone seen this behaviour before ?
