HI gurus
I have a Linked cloned VDI pool, this pool of cource is pointing to a master snapshot, but now I would like to make a clone of the master Image, but I cant or so I think due to the fact that has a snapshot, how do I go on create a clone of a master image that has a snapshot used on a Linked clone VDI pool
Thanks guys
While linked clones are associated with a parent/snapshot they are dependent on a replica which is as a clone of the parent at a specific snapshot. Technically you can delete snapshots or the entire parent and everything should continue to function so long as the replica is preserved.
Reverting a snapshot just changes the current state of the parent (discarding any changes made since that snapshot was taken). The snapshot is not removed and it will not impact the linked clones.
Cloning a VM with snapshots will result in a new VM with no snapshots. Are you trying to retain one or multiple snapshots? If you only need to retain one you can do the following.
Ben
This is my dilemma and the reason why I dont know what to do.
The Master I want to clone , is been used by a pool already, one of the snapshot is the image that my linked clones VDI are using
1 If I revert to a previous snapshot, dont I lose the image that the VDI pool is using
2 I can deal with getting a new master with a total different name and the delete the snapshot on the new master but when I do clone to create a new master it tells me that it cannot do it because the original has a snapshot
thanks
