What are the pros/cons for setting up the VDI in the Datacenter? I mean all my desktops will be in the datacenter. They will have a seperate VLAN but not a seperate network switch?
Will this cause a problem like virus issue to the servers in the datacenter ? Please suggest OR send me some links.
Thanks
Any updated? How are you all deploying your desktops?
Thanks
Pros: central management, provisioning, single image, snapshotting, updating, resource optimization, security (no info at the user physical station), ubitquity (any place you are you have your desk), multiple desktops per uses, resource management (auto power off unused desks, ....)
Cons: network availability (no net, no desk), network usage/bandwidth, multimedia & peripherals (videos, scanners, ..., although mitigated by RDP extensions, but not all plugins work), no accelerated graphics support (Open GL/DirectX), ...
You have to evaluate both pros and cons and come up to an assessement based on your specific environment use cases.
Nevertheless, the virus issue is marginal in relation to physical or virtual: with vlans and net partitioning/firewalling you can get a similar architecture of what you do on your phy lan: if a PC talks to server A, he needs to "see" server A, regardless of whether is in datacenter or in a phys box....if A is a file server, ....
