VDI and sound

Hi

Just seeking for confirmation...... ESX doesn't support sound, will a XP desktop distributed with VDI support it? I would say not, but can't find a definite answer.

Sorry. Should have searched first. Found that it depends on the RDP/ICA implementation the VM is using. So, although the XP-VM has no soundadapter, it will still play sound through RDP.

Just so its clear, currently only down stream audio. No upstream. Also note you might have a funky application that does not detect the generic sound card driver loaded by RDP. We have seen reports of applications that actually look for a physical sound card. In some cases, although I am not sure what, there might be a reason? In others it might just be and older or poorly written app.

If you are HP hardware based look at RGS as well for a richer multimedia client solution.
