Using VMware View with Composer -> After cloning, VMs getting deleted

Hi everybody,

I have a problem with VMware View. I did these steps:

1. Installed VMware View Connection Server

2. Installed Composer

3. Linked the View Server with the vSphere Server

4. Created a VM (we are using vSphere 4 with ESXi) with Windows 7

5. Installed VMware Tools + View Agent including the Composer Option

6. Created a snapshot of this VM

7. Created a VM Pool (Automatic Floating) in View and selected the VM with View Agent + Composer.

After this, the vSphere server starts to create some desktops. It works very fine... First it clones the base vm which takes some time.

Then it starts to create the numbered vms in a very short time (think about 10 secs. for 4 desktops). After this procedure, the reconfiguration begins and complets sucessful. But then I get an error:

In vSphere Client, it says something like "Delete file" und means, that the file vmdeskX/sdd does not exist at the datastore (its a nfs-datastore on a NetApp filer) (where the X stands for an automaticaly assigned number). This happens with every single VM. After this, the server starts to delete all of the VMs and the pool is then deactivated.

I could provide a screenshot but it is in german... don't know if this would help much...

Thanks in adance.

In my experience when View deploys and deletes right away it is almost always a permission issue.   Have you generated the log bundles to see if you can get more insight into the problem.

Have you tried using a different account (maybe admin) for Quick Prep and vCenter connectivity?

Hi,

permission issue... do you mean the user, under which vSphere, View and Composer runs? Its a domain administrator and in vSphere I gave the user full administrator rights.

Which logfiles do you mean? Those I can generate trough the vSphere Client?

Full administrator rights at the top level?   Did you also make it a member of the local admin group on vCenter?     The logs I was referring to are specific to View and you can find locations here, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1027744.

What I've forgot to say: The user under which the processes are running, are different from the user with which the connection between vSphere und View is done... Is that ok or could this be the reason?

So the big error is - View Composer DiskFault: Selected parent VM is not accessible.     Is your replica on shared storage that all ESX host in the cluster can see?

Hey,

yes its a shared storage. Its a storage where currently our productiv VMs are running. All of our three ESXis are able to access them.

Any more suggestions? Smiley Sad
