Upgrading ESXi 4.1 to ESXi 5 for VMware View 4

I am running VMware ESXi 4.1 and i want to upgrade my hosts to vsphere 5. THese hosts manage my View 4 infrastructure.

I have linked clones in use that are pretty much static and don’t change, similar to manual clients.   My concern is whether an in-place upgrade of View Hosts 4.1 to 5 will scramble the linked clones and render them useless if for some reason view can’t find the parents or replicas.  Is there even any reason you know of that would wipe out the replica-parent-clone relationship if I do the upgrade?

I don’t want to have to refresh / rebalance / recompose the clones after the host update.  Yes, I could make them all manual before the upgrade too, but I was trying to minimize labor time as well. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ed

You can try putting the host in maintenance mode which would push all of the replicas to other host inside of the cluster.   If you check the compatibility matrix View 4 isn't supported on vSphere 5.
