Unable to increase number of linked clones

I recently apptempted to increase the number of linked clones allowed in our pool, but found out that it did not work. Once I increase the number, I recieve an error stating it can no longer find the LC01 file on our NAS. THat is just the linked clone file created when i initially created the pool.

once I change the number back to what I originally made it...everything works fine and the clones boot up on command like usual.

suggestions?

The first thing I would check is the vSwitch (or dvSwitch) see how many ports you have set and see if you are possibly pushing it beyond hte amount of ports you have available.

The error you gave doesn't sound like a port issue but its worth looking at.

I will check when I look at it again this afternoon, but I am 99% positive there are plenty of ports. This is not a very large enviroment, so I would be shoked if that was the reason....

You may also want to go back into the vCenter settings and reset the default image.  I've seen that error before when you move a image's location post pool creation.   It will typically go away when you go back through and reset the image as the default.

I'm not so sure that increasing the number of desktops is generating the message.   View may do a validation check on all pool settings when you click ok so it's possible that you could change anything and still get the message.    Just the same I would go through the vCenter tab and reset all the options there such as the parent image, snapshot, cluster, etc.

I just want to +1 mittim reply here.  He is dead on, if you by chance have nested snapshots on your master image then deleted any of the snapshots, say the 3rd snap of 5 snaps, then you have to go to the pool settings and reselect the most recent snapshot.  View isn't smart enough to relaize that the path changed.

I didn't think my port idea was on target but I think mittim is on target here.  Of course that's assuming that a snapshot may have been deleted.  If not, I would consider just cloning the master image and building a fresh pool off of that.  THis should be simple enough and if it is some sort of lost path (which is what is sounds like) this should resolve it.

I wouldn't imagine it's the increase in desktops that is causing that. You may be able to change any setting and cause that as it may be trying to validate all pool settings. Can you go to the vcenter settings and browse through and select everything again?
