Unable to connect to VDM with web client via ISA proxy. Could not connect through proxy. Please check your proxy settings

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had similar issues.

I am trying to connect to external VDM via corporate Internet protected by ISA proxy which also requires authentication.

I am geting the following error:

A connection to the VDM Server https://xxx.xxxxx.com:443 could not be established.

Could not connect through proxy. Please check your proxy settings

Any ideas ?

I can connect to the same VDM from another desktop which doesn't use proxy.

Thanks

Alex

I suffer the same !

Do you have a solution yet?

I'm working out a permanent fix, but for now:

1. Open up IE and go to tools, then internet options

2. Under connections click lan settings then advanced, type in the FQDN of the server you need to connect to.

You should then be able to connect.

This does not seem to work for me - I wrote FQDN in bypass proxy list closed IE and tried again ... but problem still exists.

When will there be a global solution for VDM ?

Hi. Do you mean under exceptions ?

I don't think it will work as you will then need ISA firewall (assuming you are using ISA proxy) client installed and configured on your machine .

Thanks

I don ´t have an ISA Proxy but I get proxy settings via GPO and PAC file.

In both of them the FQDN of VDM ist set to connect directly.

I did gpudate / force etc rebooted the test clients but ....

Only "solution" is to work without proxy which is not a solution for us at all!

I'm unsure then, this seems to have worked for me.

you have probably got the routing setup to go out to the internet without proxy

ascheale,

There are two different people posting, which may be the cause of your confusion.

alex_ush is the original poster and was talking to sshamilt when he said "you have probably got the routing setup to go out to the internet without proxy", which means that by adding the FQDN to the exceptions list, he's able to access VDM by bypassing the proxy server.

I'm guessing that you, ascheale, are not able to bypass the proxy server to get to VDM. I have a proxy/content filter set up at my house to keep my kids from accidentally stumbling across bad content on the Internet, and unfortunately, this blocked VDM as well. And no, you cannot bypass the proxy, so adding it to the exceptions does no good at all.

I'm not using ISA, though, I'm using linux (clark connect, more specifically). I've added exceptions in the proxy server, but I think they only bypass the cache and/or the content filter and not the proxy itself (since it serves as a router).

Hopefully there will be a workaround for this soon.

I'll try that when I get home this evening and see what it displays.

I'm on vista, so there's no proxycfg.exe, but the equivalent is netsh winhttp.

I ran a show proxy and here's the output:

netsh winhttp>show proxy
Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
Direct access (no proxy server).

So, I looked up how to add a proxy and typed in "set proxy 192.168.15.254:8080" and now a show proxy displays:

Current WinHTTP proxy settings:
Proxy Server(s) : 192.168.15.254:8080
Bypass List : (none)

Now, I can't even get to the VDM page, where I could before, but got the same message as the OP after I logged in.

*EDIT*

I was finally able to access the url for the vdm, not sure why I couldn't earlier. I was able to try it with no proxy, I did a generic proxy like above, and set a proxy for http & https via netsh winhttp, but they all resulted with the same error:

A connection to the VDM Server https://mydesk.heb.com:443 could not be established.
Could not connect through proxy. Please check your proxy settings

I am not sure about ISA but I intially had an issue with redirection however I went into the VDM admin and editted the website VDM server and entered a Exernal URL in which I used the IP address and that seemed to work. Not sure if it exactly applies in your case but something you check ???
