UEM, AppVols, and Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Hello,

I am currently using Windows 10 instant clones with the following,

UEM 9.6

App Volumes 2.15

Horizon Agent 7.7

Adobe Reader DC 19

I cannot get Adobe Reader to stop prompting to make it the default program. This happens every time I open a PDF in the same session.

I am applying the following registry settings

====================================================================

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\DC\AVAlert\cCheckBox]

"iAppDoNotTakePDFOwnershipAtLaunchWin10"=dword:00000001

"iAppDoNotTakePDFOwnershipAtLaunch"=dword:00000001

====================================================================

I am using the UEM "Default Apps and FTAs" policy as well,

====================================================================

[IncludeRegistryTrees]

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ApplicationAssociationToasts

[IncludeIndividualRegistryValues]

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\UserSignedIn

====================================================================

Any idea how to stop this prompt from coming up every time? I would not be so bad if this would go away in the session if you selected do not show again.

Thanks!

Hi rhoffgrande,

i would install UEM Application Profiler and start Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Mark the box "Do not show this message again" and close Acrobat. The Application profiler should recorded the registry value for the default application.

Kind regards,

Markus

I installed the UEM Application Profiler and did the Adobe Acrobat Reader. When I tried to start the profiler session with that program, it stated the following "Specified application is available as a application template in the flex profiles management console."

It would not let me start a session.

Within UEM you can download "Templates" of applications that have already been App Profiled.

Give this a go.

I have downloaded that template to start off with and the template has not been able to capture the setting needed and that is why I tried to use the application profiler as the next step.

We will test it today. Another Option is to use regshot

Reg shot is awesome for this sort of thing.

Fire up adobe until the prompt with the tickbox is there. Fire up regshot and take a first shot. tick the box and click OK, take a second shot, hit compare... and it should highlight what registry key was changed for the tickbox.

Hi rhoffgrande,

It's possible to whitelist blocked applications for the UEM Application Profiler – the first example is very appropriately for acrord32.exe 🙂

However, the settings that you're applying look correct to me. They are identical to what I see on my own machine. If I temporarily rename that cCheckBox subkey, Reader pops up the dialog again; once I rename it back, Reader is silent again.

Are you sure UEM is applying the setting correctly?

Hello ,

Were you able to find any solution ?

I am having the same issue. Keeps prompting to make it the default program even if the registry key iAppDoNotTakePDFOwnershipAtLaunchWin10 is there and set to one.

I am using AppVolumes + UEM

The only thing I can notice is that there is a "DENIED ACCESS" from the procmon logs ( Notice acrord32.exe with DENIED ACCESS and PID=8548 )

However it seems that the registry key is being read anyways.

If you were able to find a solution, please let me know

Regards
