Third Party usage of Horizon VDI infrastructure

Hi All,

We have recently engaged a overseas third party to perform some work for us long term and they will be using our Horizon infrastructure. One of our concerns is how we address any performance related issues that come up.

This is my first experience with supporting an externally connected overseas vendor and was wonder if anyone can share there experiences and what monitoring tools they implemented to limit the blame game?

TIA

We pretty much exclusively use the Horizon Helpdesk fling from flings.vmware.com (Horizon Helpdesk Utility | VMware Flings ). It gives us a quick and easy breakdown of how everyone's VM is going, their network stats and if there is an issue a quick and easy shortcut to the windows remote assistance tool. We are located in Australia and have staff in both Singapore and the UK and generally we have found Horizon using Blast to be well fast enough for staff to effectively work on even high bandwidth software (Audio processing in this case).

> Try horizon performance monitor and helpdesk tool.

Using VMware Horizon Performance Tracker

> Horizon 7.2 and newer include a web-based Help Desk Tool so you don't need to download it from Fling. Run the following command to enable the timing profiler on each Connection Server instance to view logon segments.

vdmadmin -I -timingProfiler -enable

> Now click on 'Horizon console' at the top right corner of View admin page and it will open the helpdesk tool:

Using Horizon Help Desk Tool in Horizon Console

Start Horizon Help Desk Tool in Horizon Console

> Other than that, you can also Install the Horizon Toolbox Fling on your View Connection Servers. This is a web-based tool that adds the following functionality:

  • Auditing of user sessions
  • Auditing of virtual machine snapshots
  • Auditing of Horizon Client Versions
  • Remote Assistance – users request assistance from administrators
  • Virtual Machine Remote Console
  • Power Policies for Desktop Pools
