Hi All,
First post here however Ive found the threads very useful in the past. So thanks in advance.
We have an issue where we are providing VDI's to a customer across the WAN. The VDI's are obviously registered in our AD, as are the user accounts (they authenticate against our domain).
However the machines they use to access the VDI's are on their domain, with no trusts of any type between the two.
Printing was entirly out of scope, however they have just come back and requested to be able to print to their network printers from their VDI. If they were usb connected I guess it wouldnt be a problem.
As far as I can see, this is not possible, as our domain & therefore the VDI's are entirely unaware of printers on their network. The only way I can see this being possible is if the customers printers are published in our domain somehow.
Does anybody have any clever ways of resolving this requirement? Or could you at least validate for me that it is not possible? ![]()
Thanks all.

If I understand correctly you have got your View Client machines and Network printers at your premises , which are in same network.
From the launched desktops you need to print using those printers.
You can configure the Local printers in View Client machines. This could be possible in most of the Client Type. Now if the agent Vms has the thinprint feature enabled, (by default it is) you will able to see the local printer inside the Launched desktop.
So please configure the printer locally on the client machine.
Access the desktop and check the printer is visble inside the desktop.
If not, verify that the "ThinPrint" component is installed as part of the View agent installation
Thanks for your reply - I was under the impression that endpoint printers were only accessible if they were 'local' (i.e connected directly to the endpoint), so its sounds like this assumption was incorrect, and that it is possible to use thin print?
Hopefully the attached visio wil help clarify the situation.
Most of our printers are installed through a print server and Thinprint works great with them.
Thanks - are your vdi on the same domain as the print server, are they able to see the print server in any way? If the answer is no to both, then I think you have answered my question. ![]()
Sorry that is not the case for me. I just wanted to validate that network printers do indeed work with ThinPrint.
Yes thanks anyway. I know the feature works if the VDI is able to find the printer in the directory via Group policy etc.
I was really wondering if it was possible to connect to network printers that the VDI / Policy is not able to see because they are on an entirly seperate domain. Kind of like the way pass thru usb access works, but for attached network printers.
