In the forum was a old article from 2007

After reading the following article which is from October 2010 , sbc and vdi are from the cost comparison equal.

If that's true, what is the situation in 2012.

It depens on your need and also the size of the enviroment...

If you just need a centrized application the Terminal Server approach could be simple and also cheaper (VDA cost more that a TS CAL).

IF you have already 60000-10000 Desktop Licences and needs extra Licence for TS than TS is to costly.

In fact I have written that it depends by the size of your enviroment Smiley Happy

Il medium /small enviroment you do not have the VDA license...

PS: In any case... also if you have the Desktop License, you must add the license for View or XenDesktop (ok... also for TS you may want to use XenApp and add extra cost)... as well as condider the right enviroment for VDI (that usually require more resourses compared to TS).

TS is to complex and to costly to program and to run it.

I only see competition from an os virtualization like virtuozzo.

If you do a stack analyse from the ground than TS is far to complex.

Layer 9: Userpart (Software dynamic)
Layer 8: Application (Software dynamic)
Layer 7: Guest OS (Software dynamic)

Layer 6: Hypervisor (Software dynamic, mobile element)

Layer 5: Server Network Storage (Hardware static element)
Layer 4: Rack space (Hardware Sstatic element)
Layer 3: emergency power Diesel (Hardware static element)
Layer 2: floor space (Hardware static element)
Layer 1: Building (Hardware static element)

Layer 1 to 6 you get from companies like v3sys , nutanix and vipot3.

"Installation of our drop-in appliance usually takes less than one hour (assuming an existing VMware infrastructure"

V3Sys need one hour for Layer 5 to 6. In Layer 1-4 many components and old fashion works are reduced.

This is an old post. And things have changed drastically in IT. Thanks, Pandemic.

Back to what I was saying is that RDS and VDI deployments no matter from which company needs end-to-end monitoring for remote users. 50% of VDI implementations fail due to poor end-user experience or cost overruns due to a lack of capacity management. Hence, a monitoring solution like Exoprise can help.

Thanks
