Switching a user from a linked clone desktop to a custom vm

I have a user that started out using a linked clone desktop with a separate datastore for their persistent disk.   They now have a new job function that requires alot of custom apps, and so I need to switch them to a full VM.

My question is, can I just detach his persistent disk from the his linked clone desktop and then reattach it as another drive to a full vm.   I would then have his full VM look for user profiles on this drive.

No, you will need to copy the data over from the disk to his new VM.

Thanks.  I was trying to avoid having to redo his profile and all his customized settings.

So, if he was remaining a linked clone, then I assume I can detach his persitent disk and reattach it to another linked clone VM without an issue correct?

You could use something like the Windows easy transfer to copy his profile over to a new machine.   You can also use this KB to convert his linked clone to a full desktop.
