Router Firewall blocking Traffic

HI,

I'm using vmware view client 4.6 from home.  I can authenticate and connect to a windows 7 image but only a black screen comes up.  After about 30 seconds, it disconnects with the error "The connection to the remote computer ended".

If I turn off my Billion router firewall, the windows 7 virtual machine appears and everything works as expected.  I've tried port forwarding 4172 and 5002 but still doesn't work.  I then tried port forwarding 50000 to 65000 as I saw in the firewall logs various ports from 50456 to 64652.  Both TCP and UDP were enabled in both cases but no luck.

Here is part of the firewall log:

Aug 04 23:01:38 home.gateway:firewall:info: 476378.910 Blocked Prot=17, 192.168.1.1:56143 > 10.100.200.1:137 -Default Defense

Aug 04 23:01:38 home.gateway:firewall:info: 476378.910 Blocked Prot=17, 192.168.1.1:52771 > 10.100.200.1:137 -Default Defense

Aug 04 23:01:38 home.gateway:firewall:info: 476378.910 Blocked Prot=17, 192.168.1.1:64632 > 10.100.200.1:137 -Default Defense

192.168.1.1 is my computer and 10.100.200.1 is my work domain controller.

I then tried creating a packet filter rule to allow 4172 and then 50000 to 65000 but nothing worked.  The only way to get it working is to turn off the router firewall or select the low security setting for it.  The default medium security setting blocks the traffic.

Router is a Billion 7301 VGP.  Any advice would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Hello

Im sorry im not familiar with that particular modem however i had something similar on my draytek at home. Mine would connect for only a few secs then stop working.

I found out it was because my DOS settings on my modem were set to protect against a UDP flood. I was able to then disable that part of the DOS security settings and then it has been working ok.

Perhaps that is the kinda of thing you are having problems with. I have no port forwarding on my setup and im pretty sure i only have outbound rules setup, everything inbound is blocked.

I hope this helps.

Cheers

Phil

[Edit]

Just checked, i have 32111 tcp outbound (usb redirect), and also 4172 TCP/UDP outbound (pcoip). Nothing forwarded, nothing allowed inbound.

You the man.  4172 only was needed (outbound).  I'm sure I tried that earlier in various combinations but had no luck.  Anyway, thanks for your help.  I've marked the question as correct and hopefully, the points went to you.  Cheers.
