Required ports for WAN access?

Hello,

I'm wondering which ports need to be forwarded for WAN access? (Standard View connection server, not the secure one)

I forwarded:

443 TCP to the Connection Server machine

50002 UDP & TCP to the vSphere machine (for PCoIP)

I can connect to the Connection Server from outside and login, but before seeing the available desktops I get an error message saying initialization failed (null) (I dont have the error message at hand, but it really doesn't say more - and access from LAN is working, so it has to be just a missing port forwarding).

Which ports have to be additionaly forwarded?

Thank you very much!

Just blogged about this yesterday: http://blogs.vmware.com/kb/2009/11/tcp-and-udp-ports-for-management-access.html

hello rick,

thank you for your reply and the port collection, however I can't see, which port I'm missing? (btw port 443 is missing in your list?)

I forwarded

View 4.x 50002 TCP/UDP View Agent (Virtual Desktop) View Client PCoIP (AES 128-bit encryption)

View 4.x 50002 TCP/UDP View Client View Agent (Virtual Desktop) PCoIP (AES 128-bit encryption)

and port 902 to the ESX host (is this really the host and not the virtual machine IP?) and additionaly port 443 to the connection server. Any hint what I'm missing? Thanks!

Is it not dangerous to make such a construct without an secure server?

currently I'm just testing and running this in a virtual environment, for this a long complex password should be enough I think. and currently it's totally secure, even I can't use it from outside Smiley Wink to be serious, I yet didn't read what exactly the security server offers.

hello, can somebody help me with this problem? I guess I'm not the only one who's running a basic setup and wants to test it from outside? thanks!

solved my problem. first of all, the error message was:

-

VMware View Client----

The View Connection Server authentication failed. Initialization failed

while connecting to server '(null)'.--

OK--

The solution: Join the corresponding domain. I didn't know I had to join a domain for the client to work...

That's sound great.

Waht looks your construct like.

Are you pointing to an externel IP Adress and making an NAT in your Firewall to your View Connection Server?

hello,

the whole view stuff is internally bridged (running in workstation 7) and connected to a router with nat. I'm accessing it from outside, from an external ip / using the wan port of the router and therefore forwarded the ports. I have to admit, I yet didn't really test my solution from outside. I just never tested the local access from the same machine that I use for access from outside, else I would have noted earlier, that this isn't a firewall problem. Now I also joined the domain on the computer used for access from outside, I guess it should now also work from outside, I will try it the next days. Will report if I have success (or not).
