I have 3 view pools currently in a POC environment. 2 of them use the same parent VM and snapshot, and 1 uses it's own parent VM and snap. Am I wrong to assume the 2 that share the parent would also share a replica? I expected to see 2 replicas: 1 for the 2 pools that share the parent, and 1 for the unique guy. In actuality, I see 3 in vCenter. When I ran the sviconfig steps to look for an orphan replica (see the link below), none were found, meaning Composer believes there to be 3 it needs. Am I wrong, does a unique view pool create its own replica, even when it's using the identical parent/snap that another is?
Thanks in advance.
You are correct in that if you use a replica datastore or the pools share datastores then they should be able to share a replica if they are using the same snapshot. I would use the View Composer details view on the inventory tab of the pools to determine if maybe a single machine is using an older snap.
Yeah, tried that but I'm still only seeing 1 parent/snap for 2 pools, and 1 parent/snap for 1 pool. Yet I still have 3 replicas. Going to keep digging.
Can you share your storage layout from view? So when you go into the vCenter settings in the pool, how many linked clone datastores do you have for each pool? Do you specify a replica datastore or do you have the linked clones and the replicas stored together?
The linked clones and the replicas are together. We have 1 vSan Cluster for our POC. Everything is essentially living on that vSan Datastore currently.
Interesting. I'm setting up VSAN with view in my home lab. I'll see if I can replicate your issues. It could entirely be something in the underlying VSAN code.
Are they all non-persistent desktops? If so look in vCenter->hosts and clusters and select the replica and then look at its tasks and events tab for recent cloning operations. You will at least be able to determine if they are being used or one is just a hanger on.
