Redirected user sessions

Hi

Customer has brand new Horizon View 5.2 environment. Two connections servers that can be reached from the internet. These connection servers accept PCoIP connections from users outside.

Internally they also have some old Wyse thin clients that are not supporting PCoIP and need to make a direct RDP connection. They would like to use the same desktop pool, which allows both PCoIP and RDP. They therefore installed a third connection server which is only available internally. The wyse terminals make a direct connection to this connection server and are able to make their RDP connection. What surprised me is that user connections coming from the internet are also seen on the third connection server (which is installed as a replica).

Why would they be redirected?

Users are not automatically distributed across all connection servers, you do this with a load balancer. Sessions shown in the admin UI are those in the whole View environment, not specific to the one server. Please read through the documentation for further information, the admin and architecture guides run through load balancing across servers and a mixed internal and external setup: VMware Horizon View Documentation

Do you mean you see them listed in the admin UI? If so, that's by design- all three servers are sharing the same information and display all View desktop sessions in the environment.

Ok, got it.

Is there a way in which I can force a user on RDP when logged in from Wyse terminal and PCoIP on other device? Customer thinks that offering two desktops at logon is NOT an option. So I either need to use one desktop pool and force the user a specific protocol depending on the device or make two pools and force the user to on or the other pool depending on the device. Is there a way to do that?

You can't force a particular protocol per connection server [CS], but you can use tagging to only expose certain pools based on the CS you connect through. Therefore you could have one pool configured for only RDP and set with an internal tag, and one PCoIP with an external tag.

But if users are always distributed over all connection servers no matter on which connection server they come in, the tagging would be useless???
