Question - View Rebalance Task

Hi All,

I have a linked clone pool of 1000 desktops on 10 NFS datastores, I had to add a new datastore and I found that View Manager will first rebalance desktops on the new datastore but it doesnt stop there. View Manager continues to rebalance all the 1000 desktops in the pool which results in migrating desktops across all 11 datastores.

Is ths expected behaviour? Is there any setting by which I can limit View Manager to only migrate VMs on the new datastore that is added?

Thanks.

Thank you for your response.

This concept works fine if you are decommisioning the old storage and provisioning new storage which requires moving all the VMs however if you are only adding a single datastore why would View Manager want to migrate all VMs.

No, it' exactly the same. Smiley Happy

A linked clone vm refers to a replica and view manager must ensures that it is available for the new datastore.

and this is also reason why you can't use storage DRS in a View cluster.

furthermore, using the vsphere client for storage migration is not recommend.

You can select only some vm for rebalance rather than run the task for the entire pool or, again, you can wait for the next scheduled recompose.
