Published applications using RDSH Manual Farm and App Volumes

Hi Everyone ,

Hope you are doing great !.

I am trying to publish couple of applications for multiple users using RDSH Manual Farm and App Volumes.

Our aim is that applications are delivered JIT through AppVolumes and OS is offered by RDSH host.

RDSH Host - OS 2012 R2

Capture Machine - OS 2012 R2 with no terminal services installed.

I have a few queries in regards to it -

1. Today I am doing capture in a 2012 R2 machine . Should it have Terminal services installed, before I do the capture or is it ok to have a plain vanilla machine.

What I am trying to ask indirectly is - should my capture machine also be a RDSH host.

2.  Before I attach the appstack to the RDSH Host should it be in RD-install mode? and later once the appstack is attached should it be changed to RD-Execute mode ( or ) ( Is this point only applicable if we install applications directly onto RDSH Host and NOT use App Volumes )

Thanks

Mario,

This KB was published a little while back and should answer your questions

https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2105428https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2105428

the TL/DR version

  • Yes, the capture machine should also be a 2012 R2 RDSH host
  • Yes, you will want to run 'Change user /install' during App Stack creation and 'Change user /execute' before closing out and saving the session

Hope that helps
