Problem with USB redirection and Horizon View 6

Hey,

we have installed a completly new instance of vmware view horizon 6.

there we cant redirect any usb device.

in 5.3 there was no problem with usb storage devices or something else.

is there any new configuration step (on masterimage, or on viewserver) to get this working on Horizon6?

we setup horizon 6 without GPOs for special configurations and in global settings the USB Redirection is turned ON!

thanks for any help.

there should be no new configuration needed for usb to work in horizon 6.

it is effectively unchanged in terms of its implementation. you still need to have port 32111 open for usb traffic,

which client are you using? (OS)

are you connecting through the security server, or locally on lan via the connection server?

on the client side what is displayed in the client side menu? - "USB Unavailable" or something else ?

hey,

thanks for your fast reply.

we have no firewall between "VMware Horizon Client" and the View Connection server, so all ports are open.

we use Windows 7 64bit on both sites (as virtual desktop and as "client")

we are directly connected to the connection server.

the client shows the message "no suidable USB devices available".

..ok - cool.

so i think usb is working, its just not detecting a usb device to forward to the guest...

SO - what device have you plugged in?

can you confirm if you are plugging it into a USB2 port or a USB3 port? (try plugging into usb2 port if possible)

then click the client menu and see if it offers any devices to forward

Just a suggestion...something I came across when upgrading to View 6.  I know you said there's no firewall, but the View 6 Agent requires that the windows firewall is turned on during installation.  I had to go in after the fact and open up all of the necessary View Ports.

We have a support case open for a similar issue. In 5.2 we used this KB VMware KB: Configuring USB plug-in delays settings for VMware Horizon View 5.2 desktops to configure a USB delay. It was specified in milliseconds. View 6.0 seems to read this as seconds. We used 2000 for our value. In 5.2, the delay is 2 seconds. In 6.0 this takes 33.3 minutes. Check to see what if anything you have in HKLM\VMware, Inc.\VMware VDM\USB\DefaultPluginDelay = DWORD: n milliseconds . If it is 2000, try changing that to 2, or wait 33.3 minutes for your device.

Does it help if you unplug and replug the device?

Does it help if you restart client PC?

Does it happen for other devices or only one device?

Hi Eric

thanks for bringing this to our attention. We have gone back through the code bases since 5.1 and can confirm that in all releases the config value is indeed in Seconds. This is therefore a typo in the KB and we will get that updated shortly.

many thanks, and sorry for the hassle (and wasted time) this will have caused you,

cheers
