We have had many issues with non-persistant desktops and files getting lost with persona management to roam the profiles. View 5.1.1 was supposed to fix the issue where the desktops would refresh before the profile finished syncing. I have installed 5.1.1 but am still having issues with files getting lost. An instance I had just yesterday, we had a user work on a document, saved it to her my documents folder and then logged off. She then logged back in later and worked on the document again and saved it. However, the next time she logged in the whole document was gone, which is weird because if the profile didn't sync you would thing the old version would still be there instead of the whole file being gone. The guest OS is Windows 7 SP1 X64.
I've had a similar issue, unfortunately I never found answer.
My issue involved the "blanking?" of files. A student would write up a document, save to their REDIRECTED my documents, log out, come back later to find an empty file with the same file name. I had the same issues with images that would corrupt some how. I had my documents excluted from persona management and redirected with a GPO. I could not recreate this issue, it was random. After pulling the plug on persona management it went away. That was on 4.6, after going to 5.0.1 I reenabled persona management and had the same issues.
I've once again pulled the plug on persona management until I have more time to toubleshoot.
Sorry for being unable to help, just thought I should chime in as you're not alone
Thanks for asking!
We are on 5.1.1 and have persona management enabled. We have non-persistent desktops only and a few laptops on which we have the Persona Management agent installed. We chose to use the same profile location as the Windows roaming profile. Currently we have seen the following issues:
We are about to disable persona management and go back to good-old Windows roaming profiles. Of course we could create a support ticket with VMware to try and troubleshoot issues, but our feeling is that this is simply not mature enough yet. Besides, the amount of problems we have doesn't really allow to go though a troubleshooting process with Persona Management.
I would be interested if someone is succesful with the same setup as we have though ![]()
Yeah it is becoming more apparent that there are many issues with Persona Management. I think we are going to start exploring 3rd party solutions. I have a support ticket open but logging is the biggest problem with View non-persistent desktops. The log files are always stored local and when the desktop refreshes they are always gone.
I don't understand how it can happen with redirected folders, those should only be stared on the file share and there shouldn't be any syncing.
The thing we did which appears to have helped at this point is remove the optoin for Shutdown in the View guest. The users can logoff but they can't use shutdown, can't prove this but what I noted was when you logged off things work OK but if user then did shutdown files would get messed up (in out case Outlook profiles.
