PCoverIP Terminal

Just wondering if anyone has been looking for terminals that support PC over IP. I spoke to my Wyse rep and what I found out is that VMware hasn't released the APIs yet for PCoIP so they have their hands tied. The other problem they foresee is that the Wyse V10L (the terminal I was hoping to use) only has an 800Mhz processor and PCoverIP protocol requires a 1Ghz processor.

Just wanting to start a decision on terminals and PC over IP, feel free to join.

No #$@% stateless! Okay, I'm calling Wyse, that might be pretty sweet. Of course now I have a thousand other questions about USB virtualization and what not, but thanks.

I have more than just this fact sheet but check it out, the P20 seems pretty sweet. Let me know if anyone wants me to upload the admin guide or anything, not sure if it's on Wyse.com yet or not. Actually it's all on Wyse.com so check it out:

Absolutely, youtube it up. I'd really like to see how you administer it. With WNOS its a simple ini file on an ftp server which i love. With a Zero client I'm interested to see how its administered, I'm reading the admin guide but that's boring. Hook up the video! Smiley Happy

Will do... It's preaty sweet you can configure a device remotly connecting directly to it. Plus there is central management.

Hi Dan. Could you provide a few specifics around what you are looking for in auto-login. Are you simply looking for the ability to configure/store a username/password on the PCoIP client, or are there other requirements here?

Thanks

Hi Ken, just need to be able to store a username / password on the client so there's no user interaction required to get logged in. We want to be able to power the unit on and have it sign in all the way to the Windows desktop without prompting for credentials.

also, it looks very similar to the OEM products that Teradici produce...

the Leadtek VP200 P

Has anyone tried this unit against View 4 ?

I think wponder has, he should be making a video soon. I am working with Wyse to get one of these devices, so hopefully I can get for info up here in the next week or so... once I get a P20.

excellent...

have been playing with a small scale view 4 deployment, and have been impressed with PCoIP running through the client on a Windows machine, but the wyse terminal i have is pretty small in terms of perfformance.

I have also been playing with it in a lab environment and am hopefully going to get my hands on a wyse for testing. I can tell you that RDP is solid both from the WAN and LAN, PCoIP is pretty good on a LAN, but PCoIP is abysmal over the WAN... totally unusable in my opinion...

I was a little disappointed with flash video...

and really pushed my luck and tried to run a HD version of transformers..... oohh not good!

I found that PCoIP over the WAN even had abysmal performance just navigating the desktop before even running videos ( ie., just clicking the start menu or running programs )....

I use a PCoIP client off an on all day and have for several months though the development. I also use another client connected remotely to my VM in Palo Alto that I live in day to day. I love it. I am totally slammed right now. I am trying to get you some video of the portal experiance ASAP.

I was impressed with both RDP and PCoIP running on top of Windows. But running off a terminal is a completely different expereince. I guess the good thing about View is that you can use both RDP and PCoIP without changing any settings. So your WAN peeps can use RDP and LAN can use PCoIP. I'm using RDP+TCX right now in my lab and honestly haven't seen a great improvement with flash. Of course I'm using hulu.com to test with, I figure if hulu comes through everything will. On the flip side +TCX USB rocks the house. Out of the box I have a V10L printer working, no configuration necessary, TCX USB is worth it. TCX Audio... it sounds great but the picture is so delayed I hear everything perfect but the video gets way off sink with the words... not worht it.

re: I was a little disappointed with flash video...

Check your flash control settings in the desktop/pool settings in View Manager. Those also apply to PCoIP. For testing purposes at least I would suggest "Adobe flash quality: Do not control" and "Adobe flash throttling: Disable".

re: PCoIP over the WAN.

billu,

You mentioned you were doing your WAN testing in the lab. What network emulator were you using and what network settings? In our real-life testing experience it's been pretty good on the WAN (much better than RDP), but perhaps we've missed something in our testing.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

By lab, I meant a non-production environment... but the WAN testing is real-case scenario. I've got another thread regarding PCoIP going here:

WP, I have received a few Wyse P20s for testing with View 4, but cannot find the PCoIP Management Console VM download. Do you know whether it's available yet? I'm assuming it's a no-cost item, but don't know that for sure. Thanks.
