PCoIP with Guest User Account

Hy, we want to change our users to run with PCoIP.

Our Users on our remote facility use Client PCs with Windows XP on which they are logged in with the guest user Account. From there they are able to connect to the VDI-Clients via VMWare View. This works well with RDP. But it does not work with PCoIP (only getting the Error message "Connection failed" in the View Client). According to the events in the admin-center of the Connection Server there should not be any problems.

However, it also works with using the Administrator account instead of the guest account on the same PC. Therefore it seems to be a problem with the guest user restrictions. (Weird thing is that it DOES work on a single PC, even with the Guest-Account, altough there should not be any kind of difference to the other PCs. I know that there has to be a difference, but I did not find any yet).

Ah, yess, Firewall is deactivated of course.

Any kind of suggestions, why connecting with PCoIP is not working under the Guest-User Account (and what I can do against it)? I would like to try PCoIP with these Users because I am looking forwared to give them better performance by using PCoIP instead of RDP.

Any suggestion is very appreciated

Regards

With the pool configuration have you forced the protocol.  e.g. 'Allow users to choose protocol' options.

Maybe I did not get to the point:

I am not able to connect via PCoIP with the built in Guest User Account. It only works if I am using RDP. I can only connect If I am using another account (for example it is working with the Admin Account).

So forcing the clients to use PCoIP by the server also is not working (as the client seems to have the problems). Furthermore I have to allow the users to choose the protocol.

I am simply changing the connection protocol in the View-Client to PCoIP, but this is only working if I am  not logged in as Guest-User. As Guest User, only RDP is working.

Currently the Pool has Default display Protocol RDP (which has to stay as it is for the home office users), for the users in the remote facility I would like to change to PCoIP (the remote facility is connected via VPN and I can do a manual override of the display protocol on the clients).

So the problem is: Running the View-Client with the Windows-XP Guest User he is not able to establish a Connection with PCoIP (altough he is able with RDP, and PCoIP works under eg. Admin Account). Firewall is deactivated on the Client PC.

Hi,

The user session created while using PCoIP is not a remote login.

I believe there a windows security policy to allow Guest accounts to logon locally. Enable this and Guest should be able to launch desktop with PCoIP.

Maybe I should mention that the Guest User is only used for the local PC the View-Client is running on. The user authenticate on the VDI-Client with their "real" Usernames, not with Guest.

Please login to View Client machine as Guest user and check the pcoip logs in %TEMP%\vmware-view

Also check the pcoip logs in C:\windows\temp of desktop VM the user is tried to launch.

That´s the logfile of the View-Client. It is showing a critical exception, but I am not able to verify the reason. Any suggestions? (Besides, now error or log file on the virtual PC).

May be some permissions related issue. Smiley Sad

I would suggest you to call VMware support with these logs and the MiniDump file

I'm having the very same problem, only difference is that my user are logged on to the client with a domain user and log on to the VCS+VM with the same user. The PCoIP client crashes when run as domain user, and works well when running as administrator. pcoip logs as user:

No significant difference (besides the -500 error lines of course) on the logs of the view client started from the same user desktop but with "Run as -> DOMAIN\administrator".

If you had significant replies from VMware please post; I'll open a request too anyway.
