When I had to make a consideration about OneDrive, I saw it this way: If it's on the c: drive or on my network share, it is still using up space on my SAN. I approached it that way.
My suggestions for you are
A.) Map a drive. This is what I currently do. I use a script to map Onedrive to a drive letter. It uses WebDAV to access files. There are other 3rd party products that do the same thing.
