Hello!
Yesterday morning I noticed that an update for my Horizon-client (v8 on Windows 10 x64 with the most recent patches) is available and I had it installed - or so I thought ... Well, like several times now in at least the last or even two years the deinstallation of the already installed version was successfully and for some minutes the installation of the most recent version 8.1.0 seemed to work successfully too. But then again, when the green ring showing the progress was almost completed I receive the message 'installation failed' (translated from the German client; I don't know which text is exactly shown in the English version). There are no error messages. I am starting the exe-file using the context-menu ('run as administrator') to make sure, that there won't be authorization-problems.
And like before this happens again whenever I try to install this version or older ones I still have. Only v4.7.0 could be installed but as soon I start the update-installation in the program I run in the same problem.
Extracting the exe-file and running the msi-files didn't help either.
Unfortunatly I never wrote down my steps so I don't know what exactly I did to solve this problem the last times. At least one time I switched from v5 to v2012 (v8) and I could work again.
In my opionion the deinstallation of the older version on the computer does not work properly, because the last times I was able to solve this problem was - as far as I can remember - by deleting temporary files, VMware-files in AppData, ProgramDate etc. (and of course I have restarted my computer each time). This time all this didn't solve the problem, so I too started to manually delete entries in the registry (which took me ages ...) and restarted the computer. But nevertheless the problem still exists.
Is there maybe a uninstall-tool?
My colleagues didn't update and are still working without a problem ...
I just tried once again (of course again with 'run as administrator') to provide more information: I am always offered the x86-path, use IPv4 and the HTML5-multimedia-redirection (and provide the address of our Horizon-server). All other options are deselected. The setup then takes some minutes (quicker than yesterday), the mentioned green ring reached 3/4 (before almost 100 %) and then it changes into an orange color and the message 'installation failed' is shown, no more details.
I now searched for 'error' and 'fail' in the log-file and found only this:

As I cannot see any reason why the msi-installation fails I still think that there might be something left from former installations (I am using the View-/Horizon-Client for many years now).
(And I don't understand why the x86-program-path is chosen although this is a x64-computer and the log too shows 'ViewClientx64')? But this isn't really important right now - I need a Horizon-client to get back to work!)
OK, as it seems that I could not just send this question (but without any error-message; only the myVMware-login-page is shown) I tried another installation; maybe there would be some more error-messages. But it's just the same again.
Meanwhile I've downloaded the latest v5- and v4-versions - but both aren't installed either. But with v4.10.0 the process takes a bit longer and there seems to be a rollback. Version 5.4.3 and v4.7.0 couldn't be installed too. Today I never did a reboot between all this attempts to install a Horizon-client.
Finally I tried v4.4.0 (uses another installer) once more - and it did work again ... But I guess that I mustn't use this old version due to security issues!?
Any ideas, any hints?
Thank you!
Bernd
