No network avaliable when creating Desktop Pool

Hi,

we have started a POC on VMware Horizon 8 (2006). Once we have setup the whole environment and prepared Windows 10 Image we wanted to create a desktop pool.

In our environment we are planning to have many desktop polls comming from the same image. When creating destop pool we run in to an issue. We are not able to pick up a network.

Any one had such an issue before?

Are you using Virtual Standard Switch(vSS) or Virtual Distributed Switch(vDS) on the host?

This feature is only available with vDS switch not vSS and requires a static port binding and fixed port allocation.

Hi,

I'm using vSS… was is always like that? I remember doing a POC a year ago on version 7 and it was working just fine with vSS...

Hi, This is hard information to lock down on, it used to be that fact ^ when it first came out and I assumed it still was. Then I looked in the https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Horizon-7/7.12/virtual-desktops.pdf

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Horizon-7/7.12/virtual-desktops.pdf

page 67 and it states "network type: DVS, NSX-t, and Standard" so yeah looks like they expanded this. I do a lot of deployments and I always use vDS and NSX-T.

I am assuming you are doing Instant Clones?

Hi,

yes instant clones. I also did not find any official document saying only vDS is supported….that's why I'm asking.
