Hello,
When i want to add a desktop in view 4 i dont see any vm`s (only the folders) when i select:
type: automated desktop pool, persistent, "use linked clone"
and then under parent vm.
I configured a windows 7 x32 vm with the tools/agent installed.
And i made a snapshot while it was shutdown.
All other configuration options dont give any problems.
Regards
Hans
nevermind!!
this is clearly due to windows 7
Cause with windows xp it works without a problem.
Regards
Try to set it to Vista temporarly, configure the pool, set it to Windows 7 again
Best regards,
Linjo

nope doenst work...
1. Check Hard disk config, it should be: SCSI (0:0) Hard disk 1.
2. Only one virtual disk allowed
3. ! Take at least one Snapshot of your source Virtual Machine
Note: Do not convert VM to Template
`yes that`s what i did... maybe it check the installed os through the vmware tools...
Did you check the vSphere option in the host/cluster selection? If so, only VMs that are hardware version 7 will be shown. You can convert VMs to hardware version 7 in the vCenter client.
Yes it is hw 7
The snapshot must be taken in the power off state. And whatever the guest OS setting is when the snapshot is taken will be used to see if the VM is valid. So if it was set to Windows7 View4 will not allow that snapshot to be used.
yes but does it check the guest vm os through the vm settings or through the tools.
Cause if i change the vm settings to windows xp and take a snapshot it still doesnt work.
It doesn't use the tools to determine the guest OS. Any chance this parent VM is in a different DataCenter from the host/cluster you selected? It must be in the same DataCenter.
nope, same cluster! even same datastore...
Take a look in the latest debug log in this directory: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VDM\logs
It may have the reason why the VM is not shown.
it doesnt say anything.
try cloning the machine, just to make sure it's not already part of a pool (maybe a deleted one?) - because then it's not shown in the selection screen.
Hi,
and any news... it's working now?
What have you done???
I'm facing the same issues...
i recently tried win7 x 86, had the same problem, some days later it suddenly appeared in the list. i really have the impression, the listing of available VMs doesn't really work perfect.
Hi everybody.
if the VM is not showed in selection list pleasy try the following steps:
1. clone the virtual machineyou can´t select
2. create a snapshot of cloned vm
3. create a new desktop/pool and then you can select the snaphot of cloned vm
it works for me.
Greetings

Hello,
I have the same issue, there no VMs listed in Select Parent VM window.
> 1. clone the virtual machineyou can´t select
How does that is achieved in vSphere Client ? I mean the cloning process.
Thanks in advance
