Migrate to a new storage array

Hi,

We are in the middle of a migration project. We are migrating from our existing storage platform to and new one. Not only from one array to a new but also to a whole new SAN. We are migrating from a EMC clariion to a HDS VSP array.

We have a small View environment with around 50 View Desktops. They are all running linkedclones in a automated pool using dedicated user assigning. Almost every user has installed things on their desktop and we don't want to loose these delta's so recompose or reballance is a nogo.

Are there any way to migrate a whole datastore without losing delta like the SSMove known from Lab Manager?

How would ESX and View react if we virtualize the Clariion behind the VSP and present the volumes to the host through the VSP?

Regards

Kasper

If you change the datastore manually through vCenter, it will make the initial referance to the disk path become invalid. This will cause unsuccessfull recompose/refresh/rebalance in future.

The traditional way of changing datastore is, edit the pool select the new datastore (and unselect the old one) then perform a rebalance. But on teh other hand you will lose the delta.
