Memory Performance: HOST Mem and Guest Mem

Hello,

In a enviroment with 8 nodes VMware ESXi 4.1 cluster, delivering desktosp of VMware View 4.6, could i do some "tunning tasks" to reduce de Host memory usage?

All the "delivered desktosps" are running Windows7 SP1 Pro, with 1vCPU and 2GB RAM. The Guest memory is always low, but the Host memory is always consuming 2GB... (see the picture) Is there any way to minimize host memory impact?

Thanks.

Hi,

You can create a ressource pool and affect a limit of memory utilization.

Otherwise, reduce the memory affected to your Master.

Julien.

Consumed Host Memory - Amount of machine memory used on the host. Consumed memory includes Includes memory used by the Service Console, the VMkernel, vSphere services, plus the total consumed metrics for all running virtual machines.

Active Guest Memory - Amount of guest “physical” memory actively used.

What is the driver behind doing this?    Are you seeing memory pressure on the host that is resulting in some type of ballooning or swapping?

Thank you for the information.

The memory of all the nodes in the cluster are highly stressed (see the picture)

There are different Resource Pools, but, currently, only to organize the different Pools and services. All the resource Pools are by default (see the picture) Snap3.jpg

As far as I know consumed is the memory allocated to the virtual machines and if you want to lower than you will need to reduce the assigned amount of memory on your virtual machines.
