Load balancing View Hosts with local storage

Hello,

After using VMWare for server virtualisation it's time to take the next step.

We're in the middle of a View 5 pilot 🙂

At the time I've got 2 vmware hosts (esxi 5) with local storage connected to a SAN.

My "Master VM" is at the SAN and connected to both hosts.

A pool is created and the local datastores are selected for the pool.

The replicas are created on both local datastores when I configure the pool.

At the time, my 10 pilot users are working on a Linked Clone which is located at the local storage.

The weird thing is that all the users are running on a single host.

The is on the host with the most free space.

When I remove this datastore, the vm's are created on the other host.

After adding it back in, all vm's are on the store with the largest disks again.

How can I configure View to use both the hosts ???

It is normal behavior of View Composer to put the desktops on the storage with the largest space available. You can alter this behaviour by adjusting the storage overcommit settings. Take a look at this blogpost:
