Is there a Linux version of the Infrastructure client? Is there an open source alternative?
Thanks
JP
Welcome to the Forums!
Currently the clients are only available for the Windows OS, this is true for both the Virtual Infrastructure Client as well as the VDM Client.

There used to be a Linux client in 2.x. If you saw the Linux Presentation at VMWorld 2008 it boasts a renewed emphasis on Linux for VMWare as a company and talks about a Linux client coming in 2009 based on user demand. I can send it to you if you cant access it.

We are awaiting more linux integration with VI3 and View. VMWorld 2008 did have some good information that we are awaiting for. The main thing that we are interested in is seeing VC, VI, VDI, and view all work with LDAP. We would like to use Novell eDirectory, and if vmware goes LDAP we will be able to integrate very easily as we have with anything that supports LDAP. I think the linux demand is growing day by day and can not be ignored much longer.
Is it still possible to get Linux Client for VDI 2.1.1?
We purchased VM View last year together with HP t5735 thin clients with Debian Linux OS.
The main reason for thinclient chioce was VDI HCL that claimed t5735's to be supported in VDI 2.x (View was not yet released at time of decision making). So now we have downgraded View license to VDI 2.1.1 but still can not find client for Linux.
Will contact VMware support on this also, however if anyone here has any ideas you're more than welcome.
Thanks in advance.
WBR, Imants
There must be one if the iGel thin clients are running a Linux OS and have a VDM integrated client. I forget now what they said they were using but i have tested it and it does indeed work.
Whether it's generally available or not is another story.
