Linked clones sometimes loosing vnic?!?

This morning we get a call from a small floating pool that users can't connect to. Connect to view connection server was ok but the agent was unreachable, so we looked in the vms from the vSphere client and the vms lost the vnic. Deleting the vms in the view manager creates new machines with vnic. Any idea how this could happen? It's a floating pool in which the vms do a refresh after logoff.

Most of the time this happens when users acidently remove vnic which is listed in 'Safely remove Device'

use instruction here to disable this feature http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012225

Noble is quite right, this i have seen alot with users ejecting USB and the nic goes as well, seems to be resolved with 4.6 agent.
