Linked clone - selecting a parent VM

I have a proof of concept lab I am playing with View 3.x. I am creating an Automated Desktop Pool that uses the option "use linked clone technology to create desktops in this pool".

My problem is I had somehow previously created two VMs that show up in the pick list when asked to choose a parent VM for the new pool. I have tried to create other VMs that will also show up in this pick list, but can't seem to find the right combination of options that will make the new VM show up in the parent VM pick list.

Any ideas what options it takes when creating a new parent VM for use in a linked clone pool?

The parent VM you want to appear in the list must have a snapshot for it to create the linked clone from. The next step is to choose which snapshot you want.

Well, the parent VM must be turned off, and then you clone that turned off VM.

From there you should be able select that new parent vm and clone.

Making the snapshot of the clone did the trick. Thanks for your help!
