Hi!
I have an environment that is running good. but I have one anoying problem, and that is when dragging a window across the screen the pointer moves and then the window, (choppy and so)
however, when running the same desktop with a software View Client everything is smooth!
how is that? Shouldn't the P20 / P25 be better ?
I wish I could explain it better, but hopefully someone has a solution....
Finally, now Teradici has found a solution to my (and others) problems regarding laggy windows compared to TERA1 chipsets!
SCENARIO:
While there are many factors that determine desktop performance (for a list see General Troubleshooting Steps - Poor Performance on Virtual Desktops (15134-932)), lower performance of window dragging may be observed in the following scenario:
- VMware Horizon View 5.2 virtual desktop
- APEX 2800 is not installed, or hardware acceleration is not enabled for the VM
- Tera2 dual display zero clients running firmware 4.1.0
In some cases there may be PCoIP zero client log entries such as:LVL:1 RC:-500 MGMT_IMG :(pkt_rx_resource_check): Insufficient imaging resources. Dropping imaging data.Workaround:This issue will be addressed in an upcoming firmware release. To workaround, determine if the color codec is the issue, set the following registry key as shown below to see if the problem goes away.pcoip.enable_new_color_coding 0 The registry key is a DWORD value.Note: Ensure you have the necessary backups in place and are familiar with changing the registry before proceeding. To change the registry key:
- Click the Windows Start button and type regedit in Search programs and files.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Teradici\PCoIP\pcoip_admin.
(If you do not see the 'Teradici' key and subsequent keys, you will have to create them)- Add new DWORD Value and name it pcoip.enable_new_color_coding.
- Give this a Value data of 00000000 and click OK.
- Disconnect/Reconnect your PCoIP session for the change to take effect.
In my case I also had to disable Image Caching as well, same location: pcoip.enable_temporal_image_caching REG.DWORD 0
Now the TERA2 behaves and works just as good as the TERA1 does!
I decided to make a little movie to show the difference between a software view client and my tera2 client. both these desktops is in the same floating pool, with the same image, the movie is being converted and will take an hour to complete according to vimeo
Some support person was telling me that on Windows it uses "local cursor" where on zero clients you have to set it from "remote cursor" to "local cursor" - I never did uncover any setting on my p25s to allow this though.
Has anyone change the default settings on the Tera2 through Wyse Device Manager or through web console? That could impact it greatly. Make sure it’s firmware is updated to 4.1 released this month(may). Additionally, there was a strange experience during the 5.1, 5.2 horizon transition. Initially the Tera2 couldn’t match the video performance of view on a desktop. It was embarrassing how good View got but Tera1/2 not so much. I think the 5.2 upgrades enabled our Tera2 to surpass View’s performance. Good luck.
We run a few P20's mostly P25's. Observed same when starting our rollout.
- Pool setting: try disabling 3D (requires it be PCoIP only pool, IIRC)
- VM setting: performance information and tools, adjust visual effects, try "adjust for best performance" and see if that helps. Notably "show window contents while dragging" has a big impact. If adjust for best performance fixes, you can play with turning on individual items if you really need them and see what works in your environment.
I thought I had posted something on this in a similar thread but cannot find it. You should be able to adjust this mouse delay by adjusting the mouse speed of your P25. If you go to the OSD and select Options / User Settings / Mouse. I set mine to the second tick above slow and that resolved the effect I saw in the video.
